First Night Hollow is rich in local history starting in the 1760s when well known long hunter William Baker left Virginia to explore what would become the commonwealth of Kentucky. Long hunters were critical to exploration and ultimately settlement in what would become West Virginia, Kentucky and Tennessee. These early American frontiersmen would leave for long periods of time, anywhere from 5 months to two years when they went to explore the untouched wilderness. Theses were particularly dangerous trips as exploration was strictly prohibited by the Colonialist government and because of conflicts with numerous Native Americans.
In 1805, The Bakers's were among the first settlers of what would become Cumberland County, Kentucky,. The family was deeded a large land grant in the valley near Big Renox Creek and eventually expanding east to what would be named Bakerton.
At First Night Hollow, we believe in supporting our local community. We work closely with other farmers and producers to promote local agriculture and sustainable farming practices. We offer educational tours and workshops for schools and community groups to teach people about the importance of farming and where their food comes from. We also donate a portion of our profits to local charities and organizations that support our community.
